Examples of personification

Personification

Everyone knows what a person is, but do you know what personification is? A personification is when you assign human qualities to something that isn’t alive.

Examples of personification

  • The stars danced playfully in the moonlit sky.

  • The rundown house appeared depressed.

  • The first rays of the morning tiptoed through the meadow.

  • The bees played hide and seek with the flowers and they buzzed from one to another.

  • The river swallowed the earth as the water continued to rise higher and higher.

  • The thunder grumbled like an old man.

  • At precisely 6:30 am my alarm clock sprang into life.

  • The news took me by surprise.
  • The evil tree was lurking in the shadows.
  • The ocean danced in the moonlight.

Explanation Writing: The Water Cycle

Tuesday 13th September 2016

Explanation Writing: The water cycle

Did you know, that the same water on this earth right now is the same as when the earth was created?. Water is very important to survival for human beings, plants and animals. I will provide you with an explanation of how water is recycled.

The water cycle is called the hydrological cycle. This  cycle includes precipitation, evaporation, condensation and transpiration. The water changes from liquid to vapour then liquid again.

Firstly, water from the lakes, rivers, streams, sea are heated by the sun and then evaporates. When the water evaporates, it forms clouds by condensation. When the clouds become heavy, it falls down as rain. If it falls down in solid form, it is snow or sleet.

The water reaches the ground and flows across land until it reaches rivers, lakes, streams and the sea. Some water also sink into the ground.

In conclusion, the water cycle begins this process over again because of evaporation.

Glossary:

Precipitation: rain, snow, sleet, or hail that falls to or condenses on the ground.

Evaporation:  Evaporation is a fundamental part of the water cycle and is constantly occurring throughout nature.

Condensation: water which collects as droplets on a cold surface when humid air is in contact with it.

Transpiration: Transpiration is essentially evaporation of water from plant leaves.

Explanation writing: How food is digested.

Thursday 8th September 2016

How food digests?

Have you ever wondered how food is digested in your stomach? I will provide you an explanation as to how food is digested in your stomach.

The food that you eat is masticated with your teeth and saliva. The food is moved to the back of your mouth by your tongue to the trapdoor or oesophagus.

The food goes down your stomach and is  broken down by the digestive juices. The broken down food moves to your small intestine, here the goodness is soaked in.

The remainder of the food moves to your large intestine and the water is taken out. The food needed by your body is transported by the blood and is used for growth, repair and energy.

Waste food is excreted and it goes out of your anus. I trust that you now know what happens to your food when you eat.

Explanation writing: Why the sea is salty By Karhmyn

Wednesday 31st August 2016

Explanation Writing

Why the sea is salty

Did you know that seventy percent of the earth is covered in water and thirty percent is land? Well all over the world, most of the water is salty.

When it rain, water flows through soil into the rocks. We all know that rocks contain chemicals. Salt is one of them. Then the salty water flows through the river and into the sea.

On an extremely hot day water evaporates. Only water evaporates. This is what forms clouds.

Over millions and millions years, salty water has been flowing from the rivers into the sea. Hence the sea is very salty. This cycle continues on and on.

Why animals shouldn't be held in captivity

Monday 15th August 2016

Why animals should not be held in captivity.

Most people would agree why animals shouldn’t be held in captivity. I will convince beyond doubt as to why animals shouldn’t be held in captivity.

Doesn’t everybody know that God has created all animals to be free? Animals are born free, the zoo isn’t their natural environment. The forests and wild are their natural environment. The real truth is that we shouldn’t be keeping animals in captivity. Would you like to be held in an  enclosure?

In the zoo, people who visit the animals mock and tease them. Only a fool would not know if animals have feelings or not. Just because they are different to us doesn’t mean we must be cruel towards them. Did you know throwing rubbish, cigarettes, and stones can harm the innocent animals?  Would like stuff to be thrown at you?

In the zoos the animals are fed with food full of chemicals. When the animals are fed, could affect the health of the animals. This could lead to sickness and even death. If the animals were kept out in the wild they would know how to obtain or find their own food. Keeping them in an enclosure, they wouldn’t have a clue what to do in the wild. The animals need natural food that is  beneficial to their bodies to make them healthy and strong.

You know in the zoos there are animals that need to be let out. Here are three animals that need to be let out into the wild. Firstly tigers are born to hunt. If the tigers are held in captivity they will not know what to do, because all their food is getting thrown at them without them hunting it themselves. If you released  them into the wild they would have no clue what to do in the wild. Therefore tigers would be lazy if you keep them held in captivity because everything is being done for them. Secondly birds are born with wings, when they are ready to be let out they fly away but when the  birds are held in captivity they wouldn’t be able to fly because the space is restricted. Lastly the monkeys  shouldn’t be held in captivity. Monkeys should be jumping around, swinging on vines and hanging upside down. But did you know in the zoos, the space is restricted. If you go to the zoo and see their face they are not as happy as they would be in their natural habitat.

In conclusion, I have provided you with adequate reasons as to why animals shouldn't be held in captivity. I have reminded you that the food is mixed with chemicals, that the people who visit the zoo throw objects at them and the three animals that need to live in their natural environment. I now trust you would agree with me that animals shouldn’t be held in captivity.

Why we shouldn't eat junk food

Thursday 4th August 2016

Why we should not eat junk food

You should consider not eating junk food. There are many reasons as to why we all shouldn't eat junk food. I will convince you beyond doubt as to why we shouldn't eat junk food.

Although we love junk food and it is delicious, junk food is high in sugar and salt. If your body takes in too much sugar and salt and do not burn it off you could become diabetic. Only a fool would treat their health irresponsible.By having diabetes you have to take medication everyday for the rest of your life. Would you want that? In the severe cases of diabetes gangrene sets in, this is where your body starts to rot because of poor blood flow. When gangrene rots you have to get operated on. The doctors cut wherever the gangrene is. Junk food also makes you obesity. Junk food lacks vitamins and fibre. This will make tired very quickly. A sensible idea would be to eat healthy so that it doesn't make us obesity and not get diabetes.

We all know that junk food contains chemicals. Chicken nuggets are one of them, they contains a lot of chemicals that are mixed together and prepared for you to buy and eat. Chemicals could lead you to cancer or sickness and then to death. Yes, we all know junk food is tasty and delicious but did you know that the ingredients are poor quality. The hamburgers that you purchase have meat of poor quality. Do you have any clue which part of the cow they use? You could spend your own money and buy your own meat and make your own burgers. Some fast food outlets have poor hygiene and have food poison and sickness.

Did you know when you eat junk food the first point entry is your mouth. When junk food enters your mouth, it comes in contact with your teeth. Junk food is high is salt and sugar and start to rot. Problems get worse if you don’t brush your teeth regularly. If you have problems with your teeth you would probably need to see a dentist. When you visit the dentist it is costly. Surely you would agree that the money going towards the dentist could be spent on health food.

In conclusion, I trust that I have convinced you beyond doubt as to why we shouldn’t eat junk food. Remember that junk food is not good for your health. Junk food could lead you to obesity and diabetes or even death. A sensible idea would be to stay healthy and fit

Why do windows have houses by Karhmyn

Monday 21st March 2016

Writing: Explanation Writing

Why do houses have windows?

Do you know why houses have windows? I will provide you with reasons as to why houses have windows. You will be convinced  beyond doubt that there is need to have windows in the house.

Windows are  very important to the human body when left open or closed. One of the main key reasons  is oxygen. Oxygen is important because  human beings  inhale  it . Oxygen is significant to the surroundings around  us. Oxygen can get rid of the foul smell in your own house. Bet you didn't know that?
Did you know that, equipment in the house give off carbon dioxide?

During  winter, the windows could be used for letting sunlight in. Also you could put up blinds for blocking the sun from coming in. In the morning, we all could let the bright sun to shine in. On a gloomy day, just let the sun in and it will light up your room. Once you let the sun in, you can just relax or curl up so you’re warm.

Do you know without windows the house will look spiritless and plain, just think what your house will look like?. The appearance of  curtains and blinds are often for windows. They can be used for many things like blocking the sun and blocking people from looking in your house.

In conclusion, I provided you with many reasons as to why houses have windows. I hope I have convinced you
beyond doubt. I trust that you will agree that houses need windows.
