Figurative Language by Karhmyn

Figurative Language

Simile:
A  figure of speech that compares one thing to another. All similes  contains either “as” or “like”.

E.g
As innocent as a lamb.
As white as snow.
As happy as a puppy’s tail.

Metaphors:
Metaphors like similes compare one thing to another however, there are no “ likes” and “as”. Metaphors say one thing is the other thing.

E.g
the sea is a hungry dog.
Jack was a rough diamond.

Hyperbole:
It is also form of figurative language. It is actually exaggeration used for effect.

E.g I was so tired I could sleep for six months.
